Our History

In 1986 I received a call from the city of Owosso, MI. Like many other municipalities, Owosso uses lime for the treatment of freshwater. In this process, the hydrated lime is crushed and is used to cause an ion exchange in order to remove hardness from the water. Once it is used, it settles in the bottom of the water plant. This spent lime is then pumped into lagoons.

“They called me because I was doing some environmental work at the time. The spent product is wet and a bit slimy, like Crisco. I consulted with Michigan State University and found out it was an excellent liming material for cropland.”

In 1987, Prolime was formed. With a modified spreader and some other specialized equipment, we began learning the best ways to load, haul, transport, and apply this spent lime product. We now source this lime from several municipalities in Michigan and Florida.

For over 30 years, the name Prolime has been synonymous with providing dependable, high-quality services related to spent lime products. Our goal is to continue to be the most trusted name in the industry. Whether you are a municipality in need of spent lime removal, or an Ag producer in need of a high-quality soil amendment, we look forward to using our experience and expertise to help you achieve the best results.
